Quantitative Literacy

The ability to perform accurate calculations, interpret quantitative information, apply and analyze relevant numerical data, and use results to support conclusions. Degree graduates will be able to calculate, interpret, and use numerical and quantitative information in a variety of settings.

Who are we assessing?

Students enrolled in MTH 131, MTH 154, MTH 161, MTH 245, MTH 261, MTH 262 & MTH 264

How is performance rated?

As part of an assignment, a course specific assessment, with at least 4 questions measuring each learning outcome, is included.

What score do we expect?

75% of the students will be rated as “competent”. A competent rating means at least 75% (3 out of 4) of the questions measuring this outcome were answered accurately.

What did we find?

Our target score was met with 78.5% of students receiving a competent rating.

Where do we go from here?

At the beginning of each academic year, the General Education Committee reviews assessment findings to evaluate student achievement of General Education outcomes. The committee uses these results to identify trends, determine improvement priorities, and implement actions designed to strengthen student learning and program effectiveness.
