Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I place my name on the admissions contact list?

A: Contact the nursing admissions specialist, in the college Admissions Office at (540) 674-3600 ext. 4222.

Q: Is part-time study possible?

A: Yes, you can extend the program into four semesters. Some students elect to do this because of multiple obligations (family, work, etc.) outside of school. You may complete all the non-nursing courses (those without the PNE pre-fix) prior to beginning the nursing courses.

Q: Is the NRCC Practical Nursing Program approved and accredited and what is the difference?

A: The New River Community College Practical Nursing Program has conditional approval by the Virginia Board of Nursing making graduates eligible to take the state licensing exam (NCLEX-PN) to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) and ultimately to gain employment and/or to pursue a higher level nursing degree.

The nursing program does not hold and has never pursued a voluntary national nursing accreditation. NRCC meets all mandatory accreditations.
