“Having grown up in the small town of Grundy, Va., nestled deep within the Appalachian Mountains, I spent most of my childhood exploring the natural wilderness around me.  It was here that I discovered a sense of wonder and found myself captivated by the small details and moments that often go missed in a fast-paced world. I knew that I wanted to capture those moments - from the tiniest of creatures to the purest expression of a real smile,” said Renee.

Renee is a Radford-based artist who specializes in both two- and three-dimensional mediums. Renee obtained her bachelor of arts from Bluefield University in 2016 and then taught art to students in grades 8 - 12.  Renee decided to return to college and then earned a master of fine arts degree from Radford University in 2021. Since then, Renee has turned her artistic focus to capturing photographs of her many nature excursions and creating three-dimensional resin pieces with materials found on her journeys.

“I began pursuing my passion for photography using a basic Kodak film camera, with flash being its only function aside from taking photographs. (I still own it, by the way.) I took it everywhere, taking as many photos as I could.  It was my high school journalism teacher's recognition of these photographs and his enthusiasm for them that gave me the confidence to pursue this passion further.  He let me borrow his Nikon DLSR, giving me the opportunity to take photos of every school event I could attend.  It encouraged my many nature photoshoot excursions, discovering the many functions the camera held as my experience grew,” explained Renee.
