Are you a student parent who finds it challenging to juggle school, work, and parenting? Do you face barriers such as childcare, transportation, or other financial difficulties? Are you looking for community and support to ensure that you meet your educational goals while you attend NRCC?
The College Attainment for Parent Students (CAPS) program offers encouragement, accountability, free fun events for the student and their children, and an emergency fund for parent students.

NRCA’s Head Start mission is to build on the unique strengths of children and families; through positive engagement, health education and a quality preschool experience.
New River Community Action Head Start and New River Community College have joined efforts to serve the New River Valley. A Head Start classroom is located on the college campus serving 17 three- and four-year-old children. (This Head Start Early Learning Center classroom is an option for parents throughout the NRV and also serves as a Lab classroom for the NRCC Early Childhood Education and Human Services programs.)

A family friendly study room is located inside the Library in Martin Hall. The private study room provides children’s furniture and educational toys / materials as well as a PC and desk for NRCC students to use. The room is intended as an inclusive and shared space for student parents and their children to use while on the Dublin campus.
For more information or to reserve the room, email LibraryHelp@nr.edu and request to reserve the Child Friendly Study room with the date and time needed. Students can also call the library at 540-674-3627 to make the reservation.
A lactation & breastfeeding room is provided for nursing mothers in Edwards 113.
