What happens if I have overdue materials?
The library does not charge overdue fines for materials that are returned late. However, your account will be blocked so that you are unable to register for classes, request a transcript or check out additional materials.
How do I pay my library fines?
If you have lost an item and need to pay replacement fees, you may do that through the Business Office. At this time, there is not an online option to pay those fees.
What happens if the book I want is checked out?
You may place a hold on a book through the online catalog. Once logged in, click the Request This Item link for the book that you need within the catalog. You’ll have the option to enter notification information such as an email or cell phone. When the item is returned to the library, a staff member will notify you of its availability and you will have three days to pick up the item.
What is Interlibrary Loan?
Interlibrary Loan is a service provided by most libraries that involves acquiring books or articles from other libraries. For example, if you find the title of an article on Google and the NRCC Library doesn’t have access to the full-text in any of our databases, we can get a copy for you through Interlibrary Loan.
How many items can be checked out at one time?
You may have up to 8 items checked out at any given time. There is no restriction, however, on the number of ebooks that you can access.
How long can I check out books?
Books may be checked out for two weeks and media such as DVDs and CDs may be checked out for one week.
How do I recommend or suggest that the library purchase a particular title, or books within a certain genre or subject area?
Students may make purchase requests in person, by phone or email. You may send suggested titles to libraryhelp@nr.edu; please include the author and title, as well as a brief description.
Does the library have all course textbooks available? Can textbooks be checked out?
Each semester, the library purchases one copy of all print textbooks used at the NRCC campus in Dublin, and one copy of each print textbook used at the Christiansburg site; these textbooks will be available at their respective sites. The library will not provide digital copies of textbooks. Print textbooks from the course reserves may be checked out for two hours and may not be removed from the library.
