Allison Caudill, a student at New River Community College, has been awarded a national Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship.

The Leaders of Promise scholarship program helps selected members of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society with financial expenses while enrolled at a two-year college. Caudill is one of 200 Phi Theta Kappa members from across the nation to receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Caudill, from Pulaski County, recently began her first year at New River in the nursing program with hopes to later receive her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Radford University. “I took classes in high school, like Intro to Medicine, got my CNA (certified nurse aide) and worked as a CNA and I loved it, so I wanted to further my education,” says Caudill of her interest in nursing.

After her nephew was born, Caudill says she became interested in working in pediatrics specifically.

When not in school, Caudill enjoys riding horses and traveling. Also, this summer she worked with AmeriCorps to distribute food to apartments in the area and worked with Pulaski County High School Teens in the Employment Scene (TIES) program.

She is the daughter of Robert and Kimberly Caudill.

Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society is the official honor society for two-year colleges and the largest honor society in America. To be eligible for membership, students must have completed at least 12 hours of coursework that may be applied to an associate degree program and have a grade point average of at least 3.5.
