Counseling

LEAP Counseling

A Counselor is available to assist students in the Learning Enrichment Achievement Program (LEAP) at NRCC. LEAP students include, but are not limited to, those with learning disabilities (LD), and dyslexia. Also served are, students with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as well as, students with vision loss, some with traumatic brain injuries and other physical disabilities. Students needing to use Assistive Technology computers and software, etc. (located in the Counseling Center) are encouraged to use the equipment and will be trained by staff.

The LEAP Counselor focuses on the ABILITIES and strengths of students and will assist them with study strategies and other techniques to help them be successful in college. Topics such as study skills, self-esteem, time management, learning styles, test anxiety, etc. will be discussed with students on an individual basis or, if preferable, in small groups.

ANY NRCC student needing academic and/or personal counseling is seen and assisted by the LEAP Counselor. Guidance is given to students who plan to transfer to a four year college, choose a major, and transitioning from a two to four-year college. Students may make an appointment or just walk into the Counseling Center and be seen by the LEAP Counselor.
