Constitution
ARTICLE 1
NAME
The name of this organization shall be the New River Community College Ambassadors.
ARTICLE II
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Ambassadors shall be to develop and promote interest, pride, and participation of alumni in the progress of New River Community College , and to increase the feeling of loyalty and fellowship between the institution, students, alumni, and the community.
ARTICLE III
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the Ambassadors shall be composed of students who are dedicated to the purpose of the organization. Candidates shall be recommended by college faculty or staff, the sponsor, or an Ambassador in good standing.
ARTICLE IV
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
A. To foster a desire among NRCC students, alumni, and the greater community to support the college and to stimulate interest and concern for its well being: To promote a positive image of the college to current and prospective students and to the communities served by the college.
B. To explain to currently enrolled students the purpose, benefits and activities of the Ambassadors.
C. To identify specific needs of students as they prepare for graduation, and to develop programs which will assist them in making the transition from students to alumni. To show students ways in which they can support the college following graduation. To assist in communicating alumni goals, purposes and programs to the college, and to serve as a liaison between the college and alumni.
ARTICLE V
ORGANIZATION
The Ambassadors of New River Community College shall be composed of no more than 35 members, and an Executive Committee which includes a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian. Ambassadors must hold at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average. Ambassadors may be nominated by the sponsor, fellow Ambassador, faculty or staff member, and must be interviewed by the sponsor and approved for membership.
ARTICLE VI
OPERATIONAL BUDGET
The operational budget for the Ambassadors will be requested from the Student Government Association each year.
ARTICLE VII
MEETINGS
Meetings for the general membership shall be held on the 2 nd and 4 th Thursdays of each month during the Fall and Spring semesters, and as deemed necessary to carry out Ambassador projects. The Executive Committee shall meet every two weeks prior to regular meetings.
BYLAWS
Section 1. Election of Officers
1. Each candidate for these offices shall have been enrolled (full time) at New River Community College prior to the election.
2. Each candidate must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average at the time of the election.
3. The election shall take place during the fall semester before the end of October.
Section 2. Duties of Officers
President The President shall preside over all meetings of the organization. He/she shall supervise the officers of the organization to ensure that the programs and projects of the Ambassadors are fulfilled.
Vice President The Vice President shall assume all duties of President in case his/her inability to fulfill the term; and shall assume the duties of President in his/her absence. The Vice President shall act as coordinator of Ambassador fund raising projects.
Treasurer The treasurer shall be responsible for recording income, expenditures, and fund balances in both the Student Activities and Foundation accounts. The treasurer shall be responsible for obtaining bids when necessary and for formal requisition procedures.
Historian The historian shall be responsible for maintaining an on-going historical account of the Ambassadors, for taking (or causing to have taken) photographs of persons/events as appropriate, and for maintaining the Ambassadors bulletin board.
Section 3. Point System
Ambassadors shall operate under the following point system:
A. Each Ambassador shall pledge 23 hours per semester to participate in regular meetings and other Ambassador activities.
B. Points will be accumulated each semester, with each Ambassador receiving one point per meeting, and other points per semester, i.e., 46 points per academic year. Excess points earned in any semester will be carried over to the next semester. Ambassadors having a point deficit at the end of one semester shall receive a one semester grace period of the following semester to make up the deficit AND KEEP CURRENT POINTS ACCUMULATING. If the deficit is not made up by the end of the following semester, the individual will be dropped from the Ambassadors roster. In the event of an extreme emergency, any further consideration shall be at the discretion of the President and the Sponsor.
C. In the event that an Ambassador finds it necessary to withdraw from the organization, the sponsor should be so informed in writing.
D. Graduating Ambassadors in good standing shall be recognized at the annual President's Award Ceremony.
E. Ambassador of the Year. The Ambassador of the Year shall be a member of the Ambassadors, other than the President, who has made outstanding contributions in time and effort for the organization and the college. The Ambassador of the Year shall be recognized at the annual President's Award Ceremony.
