No matter how long it has been since you were a student or how far away you now live, New River Community College will always be a place where you can connect with others who have common interests and experiences, locate old friends and faculty members, advance your career and enrich your personal life. Whether you are a working professional or pursuing another degree, we hope you will take advantage of alumni services designed with your needs in mind. The information provided here will help you reconnect with your classmates, meet new people, have fun, and maximize the value of your NRCC degree. Most importantly, this website will enable you to contribute to NRCC and stay involved in the life of your college.

 

Alumni Tidbits

NRCC alumni are up to all kinds of interesting things. Here are just a few examples:

Catherine Bond (’96, drafting and design with a specialization in architecture) graduated cum laude from Virginia Tech in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in architecture.  She is currently employed with Carl Abbot, Architect and Planner in Sarasota, Florida.

Dan Cook (’90, instrumentation technology and ’02, information systems technology) graduated in 1996 from Bluefield State with a bachelor’s degree in organizational management and development and in 2007 graduated from Averett University with an M.B.A.  He is currently working at Virginia Tech as a computer systems engineer.

Torii Deaner (’05, computer aided drafting and design) is employed by Harrington Corporation in Lynchburg as a mechanical drafter.

Todd Martin (’91, police science and ’92 certificate in forensic science) received a bachelor of science degree from East Tennessee State University and a juris doctorate from the University of Memphis.  From 2003 to 2004, he served on active duty as the chief of criminal law with the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corp at Camp Atterbury Maneuver and Training Center.  Presently, Martin is on special assignment to the U. S. Attorney’s Office in Puerto Rico where he serves as a special assistant U. S. attorney with a violent crime impact team.

Troye Myers and Steven Moser are currently students at Virginia Tech.  Both have been accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University.

Karen O’Connor (’80, secretarial science) is employed as an executive secretary to the chief operating officer of Marion Physician Associates in Ocala, Florida.

Derek Weeks (‘00, welding) works for Suzuki Manufacturing of America Corp in Rome, Georgia as a manufacturing engineer.

Alumni Happenings

The NRCC Alumni Association plans to sponsor a number of events ranging from Alumni Board meetings to special events. More details will be posted when details have been finalized.
